Xooker – $1500 Donation

Thanks so much to Xooker for our bonus donation for our good effort in the Battle of the Bands! The team from Xooker took time to visit the band at rehearsal on Friday to present the check! Let’s show our thanks by continuing to sign up for the app and participating in restaurant fundraisers!

Zaxby’s Restaurant Fundraiser–Monday, May 6th 4pm-9pm

Let’s show support for one of our sponsors and have a great turn out! Zaxby’s is one of the only restaurants that encourages organizations to solicit donations from patrons. They donate a percentage of sales from anyone who drops their receipt in our “Sousaphone” drop box. Please spread the word and make plans to be there and ask for support!

End of the Year Honors Ceremony on Sunday, May 5

The 2018-2019 Lafayette Band Honors Ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, May 5th at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall (150 East High Street). We will celebrate another awesome year of Lafayette Band, bid farewell and pay special tribute to our seniors, and recognize the underclassmen.

A ll Lafayette Band families are invited to the event that includes choice of dessert and beverage for only $7.00 per person. This covers the cost of the food, ceremony, and awards.  Our graduating seniors will be our guests for this event and are invited to attend free of charge, compliments of the Lafayette Band Association.

Check-in begins at 1:50 p.m., with desserts served shortly after check-in.

Please register if you plan on attending. Registration will close midnight Friday, May 3rd.

Donate 8 oz. Water for Fall Marching Season

We need cases of 8 oz. water bottles donated for this Fall’s marching season. The small 8 oz size is the perfect size for students to drink on the go. Your donation will keep the students hydrated before and after games and when they travel to the various contests throughout the season.

Water donations can be dropped off with chaperones in the band lot on the following mini-camp and band camp dates: May 18, June 1, July 13, July 22-26, July 29-August 2, and August 5-9.

Ford Drive 4 UR School and Kick-off to Marching Season

Saturday, May 18th 8:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Make plans now to test drive a brand-new Ford–and earn money for the Lafayette Band! It’s really that simple, Paul Miller Ford will have a selection of new cars available at Lafayette during and after the mini-band camp practice. Anyone 18 and over with a valid driver’s license can test drive a car. For each test drive, Ford will donate $20 to the band! Our goal for this event is $3000–so plan to bring your friends and family!

Kick-off to Marching Season Special Events:

·         Meet the crews: Find out about the crews and how to get involved

·         Band Store: Shop for all your band merchandise

·         Food trucks: Grab some lunch at “That’s How We Roll” or a cool treat from “Kona Ice” (11:30-2:00) A portion of all sales will be donated to the band!

·         Special announcement?? Stay tuned to see if we can get Mr. Smith to agree…..

·         Band Forms/Payments: Turn in forms and payments!

·        Ford Drive 4 Ur School: sign-ups coming soon to pick a time. Invite everyone you know! Such a simple, fun way to raise money for the band!

Mother’s Day is coming up on Sunday, May 12.  This is a great opportunity to increase Lafayette Band Association’s AmazonSmile donations by shopping at smile.amazon.com/ch/61-1163112 .

To-Do List from the Chaperone Crew

Now is the time to plan ahead and complete all your medical forms for the upcoming marching season.

1.  Complete the LBA Medical Authorization Form and mail it to the address on the bottom of the form. You must submit this form BEFORE band camp, so we can properly treat your child if a medical condition arises.

2.  Make an appointment with your child’s physician for a physical. Have the physician complete and sign:
——–A. KHSAA Physical Form
——–B. LBA Over the Counter Medical Authorization Form

You will need to take blank forms to your child’s appointment for the physician to complete and sign. These forms are not required before band camp, but should be turned in as soon as your child has had their yearly check-up.

3. Complete the FCPS Medication Authorization Form for any prescription medication that your student will require during band activities. Check the e-news for dates and times medications can be turned in chaperones before a trip.

Join the Chaperone Crew

We are in need of chaperones for fall band camp, after-school rehearsals, football games, and contests.

Chaperoning is one of the best ways to see the inner-workings of the band and is one of the most rewarding ways to support your student. As a chaperone, you will have a front row seat for each rehearsal or performance and will share in some of their most memorable experiences.

If you can join the Chaperone Crew and help with fall band camp, after-school rehearsals, football games, and/or contest travel, please contact Sherri McPherson through e-mail lafayettechaperone@gmail.com for further details.

Become part of Lafayette Band’s list of business supporters!

We are now planning for sponsorships for the Lafayette Band for the 19-20 school year, and we can use your help in reaching our goal.

Please look over the attached sponsorship packet and think of a business you frequent–dentist office, eye doctor, financial services/bank, real estate, insurance, car repair, etc. Personal connections make a huge difference in a company’s willingness to participate.  Perhaps you have a small business yourself, or work for a company that values community support–the possibilities really are endless!

While we will eagerly accept donations and sponsorships throughout the year, we want to be able to advertise our Member-level sponsors and higher on the marching shirts worn by over 200 students to every competition. The shirts will be heading to the printer this summer so please don’t delay!

Please sign-up to work a Bingo session!  Email LafayetteBandBingo@gmail.com to let Dan know what shift you’re available.  This is the biggest fundraiser for the band.  Bingo is held every Tuesday night throughout the entire year.

Family Payments:  2019-20 Family Band Payments Have Been Billed

Must be PAID IN FULL PRIOR TO MAY 15, 2019
$1,000 for the Early Payment Schedule ($200 discount)
$500 for the Sibling Early Payment ($100 discount)*  (The first student in a family must be paid in full before a family can realize any Sibling Early Payment discount(s).)

Must be PAID IN FULL PRIOR TO AUGUST 15, 2019
$1,200 for the Standard Payment Schedule
$600 for the Sibling Standard Payment

If your student qualifies for the Free Lunch Program, indicate on the payment agreement/mail a copy of your free/reduced lunch letter to the LBA PO Box.

Please return all forms – (ORANGE) payment agreement, (BLUE) LBA membership registration, (GREEN) parent volunteer, (YELLOW) LBA medical authorization (mandatory) and (TAN) LBA over-the-counter medication authorization forms.

All checks need student’s name/what payment is for on them.  Mailing address is:  Lafayette Band Association, PO Box 910450, Lexington, KY  40591.

The Lafayette Band uses the “Remind” system to communicate important information to students and families.  The students have been encouraged to join the appropriate “remind” groups to receive updates, schedule changes, and reminders from the band directors.  Families are welcome to join.
