First Time Marchers Camp

The First Time Marchers Camp is for current 8th graders or students marching with Lafayette for the first time this Fall.

Monday, April 8 – Thursday, April 11 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

Wear tennis shoes and socks – You will be marching outside.  No sandals or flip-flops!

Lafayette Band Booster Fundraising Opportunity April 22-28

*We have not filled as many volunteer spots as EEI had hoped so our event has now been opened up to other volunteer groups, including Lafayette Choir. There are still plenty of opportunities! Please designate “B” (for band) next to your name when you sign up.

Equestrian Events, Inc. (EEI) is the organizer of the Land Rover Kentucky Three-Day Event (LRK3DE) held each year in Lexington at the Kentucky Horse Park. EEI has reached out to us for a great opportunity. Volunteers are needed to work in the Merchandise Shops–set up prior to event and keeping things neat and stocked during the event. No cash handling, no food prep, just working the front of the merchandise shops! A $50 donation will be made to LBA for each volunteer who works a 5-hour shift.

Volunteers Will Receive:

• One (1) T-shirt

• One (1) Hat

• One (1) Parking Pass

• Complimentary ticket to attend all four days of the event!

• Lunch Voucher (one per shift worked)

We still have the opportunity to raise thousands of dollars! Non-profit organizations try for years to get opportunities like this–let’s make the most of it!

Save the Date – Ford Drive 4 UR School

Saturday, May 18th

Make plans now to test drive a brand-new Ford–and earn money for the Lafayette Band! It’s really that simple, Paul Miller Ford will have a selection of new cars available at Lafayette during and after the mini-band camp practice. Anyone 18 and over with a valid driver’s license can test drive a car. For each test drive, Ford will donate $20 to the band! Our goal for this event is $3000–so plan to bring your friends and family!

Xooker Battle of the Bands

Despite a great effort by many of you, Lafayette fell short with only 493 members while MCHS ended with 583 members. If each Lafayette band member joined and only got two additional members, we would’ve had well over 600.

Despite not getting full participation, Xooker is appreciative of our efforts and will be giving a “surprise donation”. More details to follow soon.

To-Do List from the Chaperone Crew

Now is the time to plan ahead and complete all your medical forms for the upcoming marching season.

1.  Complete the LBA Medical Authorization Form and mail it to the address on the bottom of the form. You must submit this form BEFORE band camp, so we can properly treat your child if a medical condition arises.

2.  Make an appointment with your child’s physician for a physical. Have the physician complete and sign:
——–A. KHSAA Physical Form
——–B. LBA Over the Counter Medical Authorization Form

You will need to take blank forms to your child’s appointment for the physician to complete and sign. These forms are not required before band camp, but should be turned in as soon as your child has had their yearly check-up.

3. Complete the FCPS Medication Authorization Form for any prescription medication that your student will require during band activities. Check the e-news for dates and times medications can be turned in chaperones before a trip.

Join the Chaperone Crew

We are in need of chaperones for fall band camp, after-school rehearsals, football games, and contests.

Chaperoning is one of the best ways to see the inner-workings of the band and is one of the most rewarding ways to support your student. As a chaperone, you will have a front row seat for each rehearsal or performance and will share in some of their most memorable experiences.

If you can join the Chaperone Crew and help with fall band camp, after-school rehearsals, football games, and/or contest travel, please contact Sherri McPherson through e-mail lafayettechaperone@gmail.com for further details.

Become part of Lafayette Band’s list of business supporters!

We are now planning for sponsorships for the Lafayette Band for the 19-20 school year, and we can use your help in reaching our goal.

Please look over the attached sponsorship packet and think of a business you frequent–dentist office, eye doctor, financial services/bank, real estate, insurance, car repair, etc. Personal connections make a huge difference in a company’s willingness to participate.  Perhaps you have a small business yourself, or work for a company that values community support–the possibilities really are endless!

While we will eagerly accept donations and sponsorships throughout the year, we want to be able to advertise our Member-level sponsors and higher on the marching shirts worn by over 200 students to every competition. The shirts will be heading to the printer this summer so please don’t delay!

2019-20 Band Auditions

Audition materials are available in the band room and will be on the web site soon.

Woodwinds – Tuesday, April 23, 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Percussion – Wednesday, April 24, 4:00pm – 6:00pm
Brass – Thursday, April 25, 4:00pm – 6:00pm

All students in the band this Fall must audition.  Auditions are for placement in one of three concert bands and for part selection in the marching band.

Jazz Band
Students must be in the Lafayette Band to participate in Jazz Band.  The audition will be the same day as your band audition.  The Rhythm Section auditions will be on Wednesday, April 24 unless a different time is arranged with Dr. Strange or Mr. Jones.

Please sign-up to work a Bingo session!  Email LafayetteBandBingo@gmail.com to let Dan know what shift you’re available.  This is the biggest fundraiser for the band.  Bingo is held every Tuesday night throughout the entire year.

It takes tremendous financial resources to keep The Pride of the Bluegrass at championship level on the field and in the concert hall.  We thank each family for adhering to their payment schedule.

If your student qualifies for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program, please supply a copy of the Notice of Approval received from the Child Nutrition Office.  LBA must receive this notification each year.
