New Parent Orientation Meeting on July 20

Welcome new families to the Lafayette Band Family!  We look forward to meeting you and answering your many questions. There will be a New Parent Orientation Meeting on July 20 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm (during the Big Brother/Big Sister Picnic).  This will be an opportunity to meet the band staff, LBA board members, learn about band camp, marching season etiquette, supplies your student will need for band camp and beyond, and your student’s first year in the Lafayette Band.  Please come with your list of questions, as this will be the perfect time to get them answered.  We will meet in the cafeteria.  Everyone is welcome!

This meeting will be different than the first parent meeting of the year for all parents.  That will occur on July 31st and you will meet crew chiefs, learn about volunteer opportunities, and hear more about the specifics of THIS band season at that meeting.

Lafayette Band Parent Performance, Picnic & Raffle

The 2017 Lafayette Band Parent Performance, Picnic and Raffle will be on Friday evening, August 11th.  We’re doing things a little differently this year.  Historically, we have held a small Silent Auction on Parent Performance night.  This year, we will have one BIG silent auction at the Jazz Band Dance, later in the year.

For parent performance night we will have our traditional picnic.  More details about cost for the meal and timing will follow but please save-the-date.  During the picnic we will be selling chances for the 2 raffles, an “Hour in the Tower,” and a “Split the Pot” Raffle.  Chances to enter either drawing will only be $1/each.  The drawings will be held live at the football stadium, during the parent performance, and you must be present to win.  Then, it’s time to see all the hard work our students have put in during band camp.  This will be our first opportunity to glimpse this year’s show, as the band marches the first movement.

We call it the Parent Performance but everyone is welcome – friends, family, and alumni – spread the word!

Memory Books and Band DVDs

2016-17 “Vox Populi” Memory Books and DVDs are available for pick-up

Mon 7/10, and 7/17 from 6:30-7pm in the band lot

If you need to schedule a different time, please contact Jane Andreatta at jkandreatta@gmail.com or 859-361-0700.

New Corporate Sponsorship Program

Please see the attached Sponsorship Packet for 2017-2018.

Corporate Sponsorships are a great way to partner with businesses across Lexington and make money for the band!  There are hundreds of businesses within a couple of miles of Lafayette that we all frequent:  restaurants, medical offices, orthodontists, auto repair & dealerships, hair salons, law firms, banks, insurance agents, etc.  Also consider friends or family that own businesses in town–the possibilities are endless!

The Sponsorship Packet has all the information about sponsorship levels and advertising benefits. Please see the Talking Points to help in seeking sponsors. The Corporate Sponsorship Program has the potential to be our single biggest fundraiser.  If all band families obtained just one corporate sponsor at the lowest sponsorship level of $250, we could raise $50,000!  Send questions to lbafundraising1@gmail.com or contact John Dailey (859-353-2900) or Melena Dailey (859-619-4776).

Connect with the Lafayette Band Association on Facebook

The Lafayette Band Association is pleased to announce that we have a brand new Facebook page.

Please come and like it by searching for “Lafayette Band Association – Pride of the Bluegrass“.  From that page please click on the Groups link in the left hand margin and join the “Lafayette Band Association – Pride of the Bluegrass Group”.  It is a closed group but one of the moderators will get you added ASAP.

Spread the word to anyone interested in what’s happening with the band.  This will be a great place to get information, ask questions, and to share pictures and videos.  I know we’ve got a few intrepid Facebook live users and I’m hoping that maybe they’ll be willing to stream contests for folks who aren’t able to make it.  If anyone has any suggestions on things they would like to see included please email LBAPresident1@gmail.com and we’ll try to make it happen.

B-I-N-G-O:  Volunteers Needed for Skilled Positions

Download Skilled Positions

Thanks to the student sections that have been selling pull-tabs this month!
Last week we had clarinets on Tuesday and percussion on Thursday.
This week we have saxophones on Tuesday and percussion/color guard on Thursday.

Bingo is a year-round fundraiser and we need the participation of every Lafayette Band Family!  The financial success of Bingo depends on parent volunteers. Several pull tab sellers are needed every Tuesday and Thursday – the bingo patrons want to give us their money by purchasing pull tabs!  (And the more volunteers we have makes it easier and more fun for all!)

In addition, we need to fill several “trained” positions (sell paper, sell computers, caller, payout, and back room). These positions are necessary to operate Bingo and there are several openings due to graduating parents.  This is a great opportunity to become involved and support the band! Click here for more information about each of these positions.

We ask that each family volunteer 12 times per year at Bingo.  Please find a Tuesday or Thursday this month and come to the Bingo Hall in Keithshire Shopping Center at 6:00 pm.  You will meet some great parents and support the band’s fundraising efforts.

If you can help, please email Dan Prevette, our Bingo Volunteer Coordinator, at LafayetteBandBingo@gmail.com so he can add you to the schedule.

Summer To-Do List from Your Chaperone Team

Medical Authorization Form

1.       Complete the LBA Medical Authorization Form and mail it to the address on the bottom of the form. You must submit this form BEFORE band camp so we can properly treat your child if a medical condition arises. (If you have already turned in your form – Thank You!)

2.       Make an appointment with your child’s physician for a physical. Have the physician complete and sign a KHSAA Physical Form AND the LBA Over the Counter Medical Authorization Form if you so desire. These forms do NOT need to be completed and returned prior to band camp. You will need to bring in blank forms for the physician to complete and sign.

Update:  Students can get their KHSAA sports physicals at Baptist Express Care for $25 at the Walmart at Hamburg or the Walmart in Nicholasville. They are open Monday-Friday 8am-7pm, Saturdays 8am-6pm, Sundays 11-5.

If you have questions contact Merrille Stevens at merrillestevens@gmail.com.

You can find all LBA forms on http://www.lafayetteband.org/2017-2018-marching-season-forms/ and you can find the KHSAA form at https://khsaa.org/forms/ge04.pdf

If you have any questions contact Mike Booth at mikeboothgm@gmail.com.

Parents – Join one of the Band Crews for the 2017-18 year!

It’s never too late to start finding your niche and meet many new lifelong friends as your child makes their journey through band.  Regardless of whether you are able to volunteer an hour a week or hours a day, it is the combined parent volunteer contributions that make a successful band program.

Here is what you can do this summer to support and participate in your child’s band experience.

1.       Join the Lafayette Band Association. All volunteers must be members of the LBA.

2.       Verify that you are an approved volunteer with the Fayette County School System. Click on this link

3.       Volunteer at BINGO as many Tuesdays and Thursdays as you can spare this summer while your schedule is not so hectic. This is the best way to meet and get to know other band parents while also supporting the band in one of its most profitable fundraisers.

4.       Watch for a crew recruiting meeting this summer. This will give you an opportunity to meet and speak with all the crew leaders to determine which crew fits you best.

In the meantime, if you have a burning crew question, feel free to reach out to the following crew leaders for answers to your specific questions.

Chaperones: Mike Booth (mikeboothgm@gmail.com)
Field Crew: Matt King (matt@bleedsblue.com)
Uniform Crew: Amy King (amy@bleedsblue.com)
Food Crew: Jane and Jim DeRossett (fullpantry@hotmail.com)
Band Store: Jennifer Longworth (jlongworth.rlr@gmail.com)
Media Crew: Michelle Dunlap (micklepickle58@gmail.com) or Dwayne Imes (dwimes@icloud.com)

All Volunteers

Fayette County Public Schools requires a background check for anyone who volunteers in or with the schools.  Please submit to a new background check or verify the date on your current background check by clicking on this link.  Please complete the background check prior to the start of band camp.  This must be completed in order to volunteer in any capacity with the band (e.g., serve meal at band camp, field crew, uniform crew, etc.). Contact Casie Clements at LBAPresident1@gmail.com with any questions.
