Become Part of Lafayette Band’s Business Supporters

Download

As a reminder, we are now planning for sponsorships for the Lafayette Band for the 19-20 school year, and we can use your help in reaching our goal.

Please look over the attached sponsorship packet and think of a business you frequent–dentist office, eye doctor, financial services/bank, real estate, insurance, car repair–anywhere you have a business relationship. Personal connections make a huge difference in a company’s willingness to participate.  Perhaps you have a small business yourself, or work for a company that values community support–the possibilities really are endless!

While we will eagerly accept donations and sponsorships throughout the year, we want to be able to advertise our Member-level sponsors and higher on the marching shirts worn by over 200 students to every competition. The shirts will be heading to the printer this summer so please don’t delay!

Download the 2019-2020 Sponsorship Packet.  Contact Mark Stanland, Director of Sponsorships, with any questions.  Lbasponsor@gmail.com; 859-475-7276.  Thanks!

Save the Date:  Sunday, August 25th

Hydration and Nutrition Information

In order to get the most out of your Band Camp experience, it’s important to be prepared. Listed here are some ways to make sure that you stay in tip-top shape during Band Camp.

Fluid Intake: WATER, WATER, WATER

  • Drink 16 ounces of water BEFORE you come to rehearsal in the morning.
  • Each evening, after rehearsals, drink 16 to 32 ounces of water.
  • It is essential that you stay hydrated. Guys will sweat, girls will glisten during Band Camp. It’s hot on the pavement, sometimes REALLY hot. We are outside, it is summer and this is Kentucky! AVOID CAFFEINE (save the Red Bull for Band trips) or carbonated beverages with caffeine. Also stay away from sugar-loaded drinks (i.e., Kool-Aid or juice). They will dehydrate you. Water is best; Gatorade or other sports drinks are okay. BUT, drink them in addition to water!

Nutrition: Everyone MUST eat breakfast, lunch and dinner every day.

Please eat a healthy meal before you come every day. Contrary to what you may think, food on your stomach will not sit like a lump while you are marching. Your body needs fuel to perform at the level necessary for Band Camp. Avoid all caffeine, greasy foods, carbonated drinks with caffeine, excessive candy or sweets, and dairy foods.

Summer Conditions:

·        Wear sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher.  Bring your sunscreen with you to re-apply during breaks.

·         Wear a hat:  baseball cap preferred

·         Wear light colored clothing.

·         Always wear socks and tennis shoes (no sandals or flip-flops).

·         Expect high temperatures and humidity!  Many hours are spent on the asphalt!

Join the Chaperone Crew

We are in need of chaperones for fall band camp, after-school rehearsals, football games, and contests.

Chaperoning is one of the best ways to see the inner-workings of the band and is one of the most rewarding ways to support your student. As a chaperone, you will have a front row seat for each rehearsal or performance and will share in some of their most memorable experiences.

If you can join the Chaperone Crew and help with fall band camp, after-school rehearsals, football games, and/or contest travel, please contact Sherri McPherson through e-mail lafayettechaperone@gmail.com for further details.

All new and returning chaperones, mark your calendars for the Chaperone Training on July 20, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in room 212 of Lafayette High School.

Heads-Up for End of Summer Fees

Happy Summer Break. The Pride of the Bluegrass never rests, so here is a look ahead for upcoming fees that are outside of family payments, but still required.

Marching Tops (mandatory) – like last year, families will pay for marching tops and the student gets to keep it after marching season. These will approximately $65, with the actual amount confirmed as we get closer to Band Camp. Please note, these will be tracked through CHARMS.

Marching Shoes (mandatory) – all new marchers will be required to purchase black marching shoes. These are available during Band Camp only. They are sold separately by our shoe vendor and he will be at Band Camp one day only.  Payments will be approximately $30 and payable directly to the vendor. Again, the exact cost will be available closer to Band Camp. If you are returning and need new shoes, they are also available for purchase during Band Camp.

Red Bags (optional, but HIGHLY recommended) – for new marchers, we will explain these bags further at the Parent Orientation meeting later this year, but they are extremely useful and most band members use them. They are a one-time purchase and will last for all 4 (or 5) marching years!

Gloves (mandatory) – all band members (except Percussion) will wear gloves during marching performances. The color and cost will be determined as we get closer to Band Camp. They are available to purchase at every performance (football games and competitions).

Have a great summer and GO LAFAYETTE!!!

Summer M2 Lessons (Summer Music Academy)

Summer M2 Lessons will be held on the following dates

June 10, 17, 24
July 8 & 15

Donate 8 oz. Water for Fall Marching Season

We need cases of 8 oz. water bottles donated for this Fall’s marching season. The small 8 oz size is the perfect size for students to drink on the go. Your donation will keep the students hydrated before and after games and when they travel to the various contests throughout the season.

Water donations can be dropped off with chaperones in the band lot on the following mini-camp and band camp dates: July 13, July 22-26, July 29-August 2, and August 5-9.

Thank you in advance for your donation!

To-Do List from the Chaperone Crew

Now is the time to plan ahead and complete all your medical forms for the upcoming marching season.

1.  Complete the LBA Medical Authorization Form and mail it to the address on the bottom of the form. You must submit this form BEFORE band camp, so we can properly treat your child if a medical condition arises.

2.  Make an appointment with your child’s physician for a physical. Have the physician complete and sign:
——–A. KHSAA Physical Form
——–B. LBA Over the Counter Medical Authorization Form

You will need to take blank forms to your child’s appointment for the physician to complete and sign. These forms are not required before band camp, but should be turned in as soon as your child has had their yearly check-up.

3. Complete the FCPS Medication Authorization Form for any prescription medication that your student will require during band activities. Check the e-news for dates and times medications can be turned in chaperones before a trip.
