Yard Sale Success!

A big THANK YOU to all who donated items and helped out with the ‘Trash to Treasure’ Yard Sale at the Bingo Hall on Saturday. We raised over $2,800!! It was a fantastic day filled with lots of great items for sale. Thanks again to everyone who worked very hard and gave of their time to make this event a success, especially Cindy Haggan and Erin Sommer. Great job!!

Message from Erin Sommer:
On behalf of Cindy Haggan and myself, I’d love to give a shout out to all the kids, parents and alumni who came out to help both Friday and Saturday.  Setting up 6,000 square feet of space, filling it completely, boxing up the leftovers, delivering same and cleaning up was a monumental feat, and we could not have done it without their support.  Our students moved tables and chairs, sorted donations for hours, stood out in the hot sun waving down customers, carried boxes out for buyers, packed up leftovers and hauled them to our delivery drivers’ cars and put the whole hall back to normal.  All the hard work paid off! Including the post-sale drop off at Half -Price Books, the Band made over $2800!  And we got to know several of our new families today to boot!  A special thanks to Jennifer Longworth for her FaceTime Live videos throughout the day, as well as to folks who tweeted and posted all day long.  We still have the Bunk Bed, Dresser and Desk Bedroom Set, an Executive Desk and a Rolltop desk!  They are in the Bingo Hall.  If anyone is interested in purchasing, please contact Cindy Haggan at 494-8492 or me at 227-4273 ASAP.  Thanks again to all for making this sale a rousing success!

Churchill Downs Challenge – Sign-up by 6/12

Sign-up Link

Churchill Downs has challenged the Lafayette Band to get 20 volunteers for each of their very popular “Downs After Dark” events on Saturday, June 17 and Friday, June 30. They need meat-carvers for their premium areas like Millionaires Row. They will pay us $125 per person! Must be 18 or older and no experience necessary. Shift is from 2pm to 10pm and includes training, dinner and a real chef’s hat!

If we get 20 folks for each night, we will raise $5,000 for the band!  Let’s show Churchill Downs the power of the Pride of the Bluegrass!

This is a wonderful new kind of fundraiser for Lafayette Band and meeting this challenge will give us more fundraising opportunities for the Kentucky Derby, Oaks, and other events. And hey, it beats selling fruit!!! Email John and Melena Dailey at lbafundraising1@gmail.com for questions. Please sign up through the link below.

New Corporate Sponsorship Program

Please see the attached Sponsorship Packet for 2017-2018.

Corporate Sponsorships are a great way to partner with businesses across Lexington and make money for the band!  There are hundreds of businesses within a couple of miles of Lafayette that we all frequent:  restaurants, medical offices, orthodontists, auto repair & dealerships, hair salons, law firms, banks, insurance agents, etc.  Also consider friends or family that own businesses in town–the possibilities are endless!

The Sponsorship Packet has all the information about sponsorship levels and advertising benefits. Please see the Talking Points to help in seeking sponsors. The Corporate Sponsorship Program has the potential to be our single biggest fundraiser.  If all band families obtained just one corporate sponsor at the lowest sponsorship level of $250, we could raise $50,000!  Send questions to lbafundraising1@gmail.com or contact John Dailey (859-353-2900) or Melena Dailey (859-619-4776).

Connect with the Lafayette Band Association on Facebook

The Lafayette Band Association is pleased to announce that we have a brand new Facebook page.

Please come and like it by searching for “Lafayette Band Association – Pride of the Bluegrass“.  From that page please click on the Groups link in the left hand margin and join the “Lafayette Band Association – Pride of the Bluegrass Group”.  It is a closed group but one of the moderators will get you added ASAP.

Spread the word to anyone interested in what’s happening with the band.  This will be a great place to get information, ask questions, and to share pictures and videos.  I know we’ve got a few intrepid Facebook live users and I’m hoping that maybe they’ll be willing to stream contests for folks who aren’t able to make it.  If anyone has any suggestions on things they would like to see included please email LBAPresident1@gmail.com and we’ll try to make it happen.

B-I-N-G-O:  Volunteers Needed for Skilled Positions

Download Skilled Positions

Bingo is a year-round fundraiser and we need the participation of every Lafayette Band Family!  The financial success of Bingo depends on parent volunteers. Several pull tab sellers are needed every Tuesday and Thursday – the bingo patrons want to give us their money by purchasing pull tabs!  (And the more volunteers we have makes it easier and more fun for all!)

In addition, we need to fill several “trained” positions (sell paper, sell computers, caller, payout, and back room). These positions are necessary to operate Bingo and there are several openings due to graduating parents.  This is a great opportunity to become involved and support the band! Click here for more information about each of these positions.

We ask that each family volunteer 12 times per year at Bingo.  Please find a Tuesday or Thursday this month and come to the Bingo Hall in Keithshire Shopping Center at 6:00 pm.  You will meet some great parents and support the band’s fundraising efforts.

Summer To-Do List from Your Chaperone Team

Medical Authorization Form

1.       Complete the LBA Medical Authorization Form and mail it to the address on the bottom of the form. You must submit this form BEFORE band camp so we can properly treat your child if a medical condition arises. (If you have already turned in your form – Thank You!)

2.       Make an appointment with your child’s physician for a physical. Have the physician complete and sign a KHSAA Physical Form AND the LBA Over the Counter Medical Authorization Form if you so desire. These forms do NOT need to be completed and returned prior to band camp. You will need to bring in blank forms for the physician to complete and sign.

You can find all LBA forms on http://www.lafayetteband.org/2017-2018-marching-season-forms/ and you can find the KHSAA form at https://khsaa.org/forms/ge04.pdf

If you have any questions contact Mike Booth at mikeboothgm@gmail.com.

Parents – Join one of the Band Crews for the 2017-18 year!

It’s never too late to start finding your niche and meet many new lifelong friends as your child makes their journey through band.  Regardless of whether you are able to volunteer an hour a week or hours a day, it is the combined parent volunteer contributions that make a successful band program.

Here is what you can do this summer to support and participate in your child’s band experience.

1.       Join the Lafayette Band Association. All volunteers must be members of the LBA.

2.       Verify that you are an approved volunteer with the Fayette County School System. Click on this link

3.       Volunteer at BINGO as many Tuesdays and Thursdays as you can spare this summer while your schedule is not so hectic. This is the best way to meet and get to know other band parents while also supporting the band in one of its most profitable fundraisers.

4.       Watch for a crew recruiting meeting this summer. This will give you an opportunity to meet and speak with all the crew leaders to determine which crew fits you best.

In the meantime, if you have a burning crew question, feel free to reach out to the following crew leaders for answers to your specific questions.

Chaperones: Mike Booth (mikeboothgm@gmail.com)
Field Crew: Matt King (matt@bleedsblue.com)
Uniform Crew: Amy King (amy@bleedsblue.com)
Food Crew: Jane and Jim DeRossett (fullpantry@hotmail.com)
Band Store: Jennifer Longworth (jlongworth.rlr@gmail.com)
Media Crew: Michelle Dunlap (micklepickle58@gmail.com) or Dwayne Imes (dwimes@icloud.com)
