Notes of Encouragement

Every year, band moms and dads write hand-written notes of encouragement to every member of The Pride of the Bluegrass. This optional activity and long-standing tradition was started many years ago by a band mom to show the band and staff our love and support during this busiest time of the competition season. This activity is not sanctioned by the LBA. Anyone may choose to participate and write notes for a specific section (e.g., trumpets, percussion, color guard etc.) to be distributed to students on the bus as they travel to the KMEA state competition on October 26. The maximum number of notes to be assigned will be 10.

Review the sections below and email Lee Ann Myers at LBAPresident1@gmail.com. Lee Ann will then send you a list of students and a sample note.

Notes must be returned no later than Tuesday October 22. Watch the e-news for collection dates and times. Notes can be returned to Lee Ann Myers.

Tips for Note Preparation:

·  Short, hand-written, anonymous note of support and encouragement. Notes are not intended to suggest or emphasize winning.

·  Decorate paper with stickers, use scrapbook paper with music symbols, or whatever you choose.

·  Add your special, creative touches!

Sections: Baritones, Clarinets, Color Guard, Drum Majors, Flutes, Low Reeds, Mellophones, Percussion, (Alto) Saxophones, Sousaphones, Staff, Trombones, and Trumpets

Uniform News

We have several black shoes without matches, gloves, dry fit shirt with shorts, that were found at the hotel on Sunday.  Students check your red bags and see Ms. Wild on Thursday after practice to get your missing uniform pieces!

We have several kids from the weekend and all of marching season that owe for gloves.  Please pay Ms. Wild this week after practice on Thursday.  If gloves do not get paid for by state finals the amount owed will go to the student’s Charms account.  Amount to be paid is $5.

Snap Raise

(In place of cheese and sausage)

What an amazing weekend!  So proud of our kids’ performance this weekend in Johnson City!  We are also doing very well with Snap! Raise- we currently have more than $22,000!  We are well on our way to meeting our goal!!!  Our goal is $26,000.  There are only 10 days left to donate, and time is rushing by on our way to State.

Congratulations to the Baritone Section– they won the first week incentive of TIME IN THE TOWER!  Baritones- we will plan to have you spend your 10 minutes each in the tower on Tuesday when we return to practice.

We will plan to have our Week 2 Incentive: “OPT OUT of Running” and enjoy a snack on either Thursday or Friday of practice.  Students who have met one or more of the following requirements will be invited to participate:

-entered 20 valid emails (with no more than 5 bouncing)
-earned more than $150 in this campaign
-had 3 or more donations
-OPTed Out

Please see Jennie Hayes or email at lbafundraising1@gmail.com or text at (859) 229-9376 if you are unsure if you qualify or if you have any questions.

Here are the INSTRUCTIONS for creating/logging into your Snap! Raise account.  Please do not create another account if you already have one.

Here are the answers to frequently asked questions:

Can I donate in a check form instead of online?  I have relatives that want to donate but don’t have PayPal?  Yes, place the donation in the black box on the wall in the band room with your child’s name in the memo line or have them mail it to:

Lafayette Band Association
PO Box 910450
Lexington, KY 40591-0450

**Please make all checks out to LBA.  Checks donated like this WILL NOT go through the Snap! Raise system, so they will not be counted by Snap! Raise toward your child’s participation.  If your child gets 1 donation of $20 or more in the Snap! Raise system then they are counted as participating.   The higher participation our kids have with Snap! Raise, the more money we get to keep.  We keep 70% if our participation is below 70%.  If our participation is above 70%, then we will keep 77% of all donations.  Currently we are at 67% participation.

-How do I opt out of this fundraiser?  Easy- send in a check made out to LBA for our suggested donation amount of $75.

-Can I still put in emails?  What if we don’t have all 20 emails? Yes, you can still enter emails into the system.   Every email counts.  Have your child do the best they can.  Click this link to get INSTRUCTIONS on how to add emails.  They can also send out texts- which are highly effective.  See the instructions link for how to log on, then the system will prompt you to send texts.

-What are the remaining PRIZES for Snap! Raise:

WEEK 3 Incentive: Our plan is to supplement one meal of the winning Section at State.  Likely the supplement would be 2 trays of Chick-fil-A nuggets and Chick-fil-A sauce, soda, and some form of dessert.  Please email lbafundraising1@gmail.com with any questions.

INDIVIDUAL PRIZES: The top dollar amount recipient will receive $50 cash, 2nd place will receive $25 cash, and 3rd place will receive $15 cash.

-What exactly IS Snap!Raise?

Snap! Raise  is the nation’s leading fundraising platform for groups, clubs and teams. For the past five years, Snap! Raise has helped more than 35,000 groups in the U.S. raise more than $400M in funding!

Email LBAfundraising1@gmail.com or contact Jennie Hayes (859-229-9376) with any other questions.

Thank you for all of your continued support of Lafayette Band!  We could not do it without each of you!

Choose ‘Lafayette’ from the navigation bar, and the password is Refuge. You CANNOT order your button on the Shellshots site, you are simply choosing which photos you would like.

*Please be aware that full body shots do not usually do well with the buttons.  It is better to choose a close up shot or crop the full body picture.

Band Bash

Band Bash 2020 is scheduled for March 6th, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church!

Parents- this event is not just for the kids, it is also FOR YOU!  Parents and students both get a little dressed up and come out to listen to our amazing Jazz Ensembles.  The evening begins at 7 and ends at 10 and features performances by both Lafayette Jazz Ensembles.  There are light hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.  This is definitely a fundraiser, but it is also an opportunity to catch up with parents that you have missed seeing, visit with the Band Directors, and watch the kids have a little fun.  Please mark your calendars now and watch e-NEWS for updates on how to get tickets as we get closer to the event.
