Download Flyer

All band students and families are invited to join us at Gattitown on Monday, October 21 after rehearsal ends at 6:15 for traditional “Kick-Off to State”. We have reserved the largest room at Gattitown and will watch our performance while enjoying the salad, pasta, and pizza buffet.

Regular buffet prices apply and Gattitown will be giving back 20% of food and game room sales to the Band. Don’t miss this special night as Lafayette Band takes over Gattitown to begin the journey to State Finals! Download information flyer.

New parents, please encourage your kids to get their homework for their Tuesday classes done this weekend so that they will not be stressed on Monday night.  This is their chance to let off a little steam and get pumped up for State!  Lee Ann Myers will be present with your State tickets, so you can pick them up at Gattitown that evening!

Snap!Raise Update

We have 4 days left for our Snap!Raise

Check out our new video!
We made a BOA celebration video!
How do I see the new and improved Snap!Raise video?
Easy- just go to the Snap!Raise email your child sent you (probably to all of your email accounts), view the fundraiser, and click on the video.  There is very rare footage in the video- definitely a MUST SEE.

If you OPTed out but want to see the video, just send an email to lbafundraising1@gmail.com and I will send you the video to view.  Did your child take emails to school, say they were going to put them in, and then not do so? Is this the first you are hearing about all of this?  First, breathe slowly in and out, then use these INSTRUCTIONS to have your child add emails.  It is not too late.  You would be surprised how much even a couple of emails can accomplish in a matter of days!

Congratulations to the Flutes and Trumpets– they are both being awarded our final week incentive!

As of this writing, we are just shy of $100 from meeting our goal of $26,000 (to raise $20,000 we must bring in $26,000 on Snap! Raise).

Your family doesn’t have a PayPal account, or wants to contribute outside the website?  You still want to opt out?  No problem.  Send a check made out to LBA and have your student place it in the black box on the wall in the band room or mail it to

Lafayette Band Association
PO Box 910450
Lexington, KY 40591-0450

Email lbafundraising1@gmail.com with any questions.

I can’t thank you all enough.  After this e-News, we will likely go dark for a while on fundraising information so that everyone can focus on State.  GO LAFAYETTE!!!

Final Run-Through Events

All parents, families, and friends are invited to the Final Run-Through Thursday at 6:00pm. An annual tradition, we will line the perimeter of the practice lot (or football field) during the final run-through holding signs and posters of encouragement–make them as fancy or simple as you like! Let’s show the students how proud we are of all they have accomplished this year!

The annual Prayer-Around-the-Flag-Pole will be Thursday at 5:30pm.  Parents and family members are invited to pray for each band member, staff, section, and circumstance.  Pat Kirkhope will lead the prayer this year.  We will meet at the flagpole in front of the SCAPA building and will finish in time to watch the final-run at practice.  This activity is not sanctioned by the LBA and is optional.  (If it’s raining, we will be under the stadium bleachers.)

State Tickets

Pick Up State tickets from Lee Ann Myers this week. In the senior lot during pick up times every day this week.

For additional tickets, please contact KMEA directly. Link for information

Notes of Encouragement

Every year, band moms and dads write hand-written notes of encouragement to every member of The Pride of the Bluegrass. This optional activity and long-standing tradition was started many years ago by a band mom to show the band and staff our love and support during this busiest time of the competition season. This activity is not sanctioned by the LBA. Anyone may choose to participate and write notes for a specific section (e.g., trumpets, percussion, color guard etc.) to be distributed to students on the bus as they travel to the KMEA state competition on October 26. The maximum number of notes to be assigned will be 10.

Review the sections below and email Lee Ann Myers at LBAPresident1@gmail.com. Lee Ann will then send you a list of students and a sample note.

Notes must be returned no later than Tuesday October 22. Watch the e-news for collection dates and times. Notes can be returned to Lee Ann Myers.

Tips for Note Preparation:

·  Short, hand-written, anonymous note of support and encouragement. Notes are not intended to suggest or emphasize winning.

·  Decorate paper with stickers, use scrapbook paper with music symbols, or whatever you choose.

·  Add your special, creative touches!

Sections: Baritones, Clarinets, Color Guard, Drum Majors, Flutes, Low Reeds, Mellophones, Percussion, (Alto) Saxophones, Sousaphones, Staff, Trombones, and Trumpets

Medications for State

If your child needs to take prescription or over-the-counter medication that we do not already have physician’s signature for, you will need to complete and turn in the FCPS “Medication Authorization Form” found here:  https://www.fcps.net/cms/lib/KY01807169/Centricity/Domain/2295/meds_ok.pdf

On Wednesday and Thursday, turn in the completed form along with the medication needed in its original container to any chaperone at the blue building next to the practice field.

Please note that over-the-counter medications must be accompanied by a physician’s signature on the FCPS form noted above.  If a physician has already signed the LBA Medical Form then you do are not required to submit an additional form for OTC medications you initiated on the LBA Form.

If you have any questions you may contact Sherri McPherson (lafayettechaperone@gmail.com).

Uniform Reminders

We still have several black shoes without matches, gloves, dry fit shirt with shorts, that were found at the hotel last weekend.  Students check your red bags and see Ms. Wild on Wednesday or Thursday after practice to get your missing uniform pieces!

We have several kids from the weekend and all of marching season that owe for gloves.  Please pay Ms. Wild after practice this week.  If gloves do not get paid for by state finals the amount owed will go to the student’s Charms account.  Amount to be paid is $5.

RED BAGS – Students need to check their red bags carefully before leaving for state finals.  They need to remember to pack deodorant, dry fit shirt(s), black shorts, black socks, black gloves and shoes.

SHOES – All students need to assure their shoes are clean.  They can be cleaned with a damp cloth.

UNIFORMS/FOOD – Just a reminder to all students and parents:  Students are not allowed to eat food while in the uniforms at any time.

HAIR – Students need to be in slicked buns (no wispies).  No wispies or long hair can be on the collar of the shirt.  Students may need to make arrangements for a haircut.

MISCELLANEOUS – No visible jewelry or nail polish is allowed in uniform.  Manicures and piercings may not be a good idea during marching season.

Food Crew News

It is time! State is right around the corner and we need a crew to make several meals and snacks happen. There are a lot of opportunities for you to sign up.  See Sign up Genius below.

Band Bash

Band Bash 2020 is scheduled for March 6th, 2020 at Calvary Baptist Church!

Parents– this event is not just for the kids, it is also FOR YOU!  Parents and students both get a little dressed up and come out to listen to our amazing Jazz Ensembles.  The evening begins at 7 and ends at 10 and features performances by both Lafayette Jazz Ensembles.  There are light hors d’oeuvres/desserts and a silent auction.

This event is strategically placed-  the perfect location to park your car, walk or shuttle to Local Taco/Joe B’s/Mellow Mushroom with the band parents you haven’t seen in months and have been missing, then come back and watch the kids have a little fun and bid on fabulous items!

Please mark your calendars now and watch e-News for updates on how to get tickets as we get closer to the event.
