Senior Night

Lafayette Band Senior Night is Friday, September 29.  Students will be recognized before the football game for their contributions to the Lafayette Band.  Parents of seniors or juniors graduating early, please complete this form (Click Here) immediately to allow for event preparation and recognition of your student.

Parents of seniors will meet Casie Clements outside the Springhill Drive entrance to the stadium promptly at 6:30pm on September 29th. Casie will coordinate family check-in and will distribute numbers to each family as you arrive.  Please follow numerical order and find your place in line.

The Lafayette Band Association will pay admission for two guests per senior to remain for the football game and enjoy the half-time performance by the Lafayette Band.  Families will be directed by Casie to enter the field where they will be joined by the senior students.  The announcements will begin at 7:00pm.  Each senior’s name will be announced and they will be presented with a certificate.  After the entire group is recognized on the field, families will be escorted to the rear of the stadium for photographs.  We will be honoring 41 seniors, so please be on time for this special event.

Please call or text Casie Clements (859-229-5118).  Thank you and Congratulations!

BAND MEMBERS — It is very important to check and double-check the items in your Red Bag prior to every performance! Make certain all required items are present, clean. This is important information to remember prior to every football game and competition!

Parents and Students — Carefully review these instructions:

  • Bring money for gloves if needed. $8
  • Clean and polish shoes
  • Have your band camp shirt to wear under your uniform.
  • Wear long black socks – plain, no stripes! (It’s good just to keep an extra pair of socks in your bag)
  • Bring the gym shorts
  • If there is a problem with your uniform, see a member of the uniform team.
  • We always appear in public dressed in full uniform unless Mr. Smith or Mr. Bishop have informed the students otherwise.

Hair should not touch the collar when dressed in uniform, therefore, students with longer hair should bring items to secure their hair in a ponytail or purchase a wig cap.

Have class – YOU are the “PRIDE OF THE BLUEGRASS”! Always support other performing groups! Refuse to say anything negative, no matter what might be said to you.

Eat at Chipotle – Fayette Mall – This Wednesday 5-9pm

Click HERE for fundraising flyer. Eat at Chipotle at Fayette Mall between 5:00 and 9:00 on September 27 and have a great dinner while supporting the Band. CHIPOTLE IS GIVING 50% BACK TO THE BAND!!!

Medications for the Grant County Contest

If your child needs to take prescription or over-the-counter medication that we do not already have physician’s signature for during the day on Saturday you will need to complete and turn in the FCPS “Physician Order and Parent/Guardian Authorization Administration Form” found under the Downloadable Forms section of the Lafayette Website (www.lafayetteband.org).

On Saturday morning, turn in the completed form along with the medication needed for that day only in its original container to any chaperone at the blue building next to the practice field.

Please note that over-the-counter medications must be accompanied by a physician’s signature on the FCPS form noted above.  If a physician has already signed the LBA Medical Form then you do are not required to submit an additional form for OTC medications you initiated on the LBA Form.

If you have any questions you may contact Mike Booth (mikeboothgm@gmail.com) or Merrille Stevens merrillestevens@gmail.com

Notes of Encouragement

This optional activity and long-standing tradition was started many years ago by a band mom to show the Band and Staff our love and support during this busiest time of the competition season.  This activity is not sanctioned by the LBA.  Anyone may choose to participate and write notes of encouragement for a specific section (e.g., trombones, color guard, etc.) to be distributed to students on the bus as they travel to KMEA competition on October 27.  The maximum number of notes assigned will be 10.

Review the sections below and email your choice to Casie Clements at LBAPresident1@gmail.com.  Casie will then send you a list of students and a sample note.

Notes must be returned no later than Friday, October 20.  Watch e-News for collection dates/times.  Notes can be returned to Cindy Haggan or Casie Clements.

Tips for Note Preparation:

·         Short, hand-written, anonymous note of support and encouragement!  Notes are not intended to suggest or emphasize winning.

·         Decorate paper with stickers, use scrapbook paper with music symbols, or whatever you choose.

·         Add your special touch!

Sections:  Baritones, Clarinets, Color Guard, Drum Majors, Flutes, Mellophones, Percussion, Saxophones, Sousaphones, Staff, Trombones, and Trumpets.
