Mastering Musicianship Program
Statistics indicate that if a child participates in music, he or she is likely to earn higher grades and score better on standardized tests. Now there is powerful scientific evidence of a cause and effect link between music instruction and intelligence. Lafayette's Mastering Musicianship Program, known as M2, provides for individual music lessons over a 10-week session each semester. The advantages to this program are cost and convenience. The rate for private lessons in Lexington is approximately $20 per half hour or more. The M2 Program at Lafayette is only $150 for the 10-week session, and the private instruction takes place in the practice rooms of the Lafayette Band Department, under the direction of highly qualified music consultants. Watch for information about this program in future band communications.

SPRING 2013 M2 DATES
Lafayette Band Music Academy
The Lafayette Band is one of the premiere band programs in the United States. One of the reasons for this success is the willingness of our students to seek individual instruction on their instrument. With the success of the "Mastering Musicianship (M2)" program, many students and parents have asked about the opportunities to extend the instruction into the summer months. Therefore, in 2005, we initiated the first "Lafayette Band Music Academy", beginning the first week of June. Interested students are offered a total of 5 private lessons, scheduled on Monday's during this summer, in the Lafayette Band Room. Students are encouraged to reserve a slot in the academy by completing a registration form and submitting the payment of $75.00 by the deadline.
Lafayette Summer Band
During the summer, Monday's are typically dedicated to color guard and percussion training, along with this year's offering of the Band Music Academy. For the second year, Summer Band will be offered to those interested students who wish to voluntarily attend on Monday evenings from 7-8 pm, to hone up on pep band music, the school song, stand cheers, etc. We will also spend some time on the fall show music, and schedule sectionals at different times during the summer to concentrate more specifically on show music. There is nothing mandatory about this opportunity, but it affords a number of students the chance so spend some minimum playing time before Band Camp begins.
Lafayette "Switchers" Class
Many times we have students that either want to switch to other instruments or have been asked to switch to another instrument to help the instrumentation of the band. We support these students by providing a “switchers” class to help them get started. We provide a trained professional to assist students who are making an instrument change.
